A side table takes more daily punishment than almost anything else in a room. Mugs, remotes, glasses of water at midnight, books left face down, children’s things that somehow migrate from every other surface. It needs to hold up to all of that without looking like it is trying too hard to be noticed. Grey works here in a way that other colours do not because it sits quietly next to almost any sofa, any rug, any wall colour you might already have committed to. It does not compete. What we have been looking for specifically are pieces with some real weight to them, surfaces that do not mark at the first opportunity, and legs or bases that feel considered rather than flimsy. A side table is not a statement piece and it should not need to be. It just needs to be there, useful and good looking, every single day. These are the ones that actually manage both.
