Overhead lighting is the enemy of atmosphere and most rooms rely on it far too heavily. A single ceiling light flattens everything. Wall lights do something different. They push light down or upward, they create pools and warmth, they make a room feel inhabited rather than illuminated. We’ve always thought of them as the piece that signals someone has actually thought about how their room feels in the evening, not just how it looks in a photograph.

What we’ve looked for here goes beyond the fitting itself. We’ve thought about rooms that need a reading light by the bed without a cluttered bedside table, hallways that feel cold and functional, living rooms where a floor lamp just isn’t an option. Scale matters. So does the quality of the light produced and whether the fitting holds up as a piece of design even when it’s switched off.
