Overhead lighting does a room no favours. It flattens everything, makes spaces feel functional rather than lived in, and no amount of dimming entirely fixes it. A good lamp is not just a light source, it’s part of the composition of a room. The base, the shade, the quality of the glow it produces when everything else is switched off. These things matter more than most people give them credit for.
